What I Learned Last Week (During the Pandemic) in the MCU

Phase Four has been delayed – The biggest and most obvious news is that Phase Four of the MCU has been delayed. Set to kickoff on May 1st with the release of Black Widow, every MCU release has been pushed back at least six months and we still have no clarity on when unfinished projects will begin shooting again. Check out the new release dates below (only the movies, we still do not know how the Disney+ show release dates have been impacted).

Black Widow – November 6, 2020
The Eternals – February 12, 2021
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – May 7, 2021
Spider-Man 3 – November 5, 2021
Thor: Love and Thunder – February 11, 2022
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – March 25, 2022
Black Panther 2 – May 6, 2022
Captain Marvel 2 – July 29, 2022

Comic-Con 2020 no longer cancelled – Due to the pandemic, Comic-Con was cancelled for the first time since its inception but on May 8th, they announced they will be hosting a virtual at home Comic-Con. There is little information about how this event will occur but it is great to see that the event is still happening. (Source – https://bit.ly/2yywq01)

WandaVision is done shooting and the VFX may be completed as well – Much like The Falcon and the Winter Solider, it was thought that WandaVision still had filming left to complete but a new report from Murphy’s Multiverse disputes this. There was a pandemic storyline in The Falcon and the Winter Solider but due to the real world pandemic, this has been scrapped. It is thought that the required additional filming for WandaVision would have been tied to this plot but now these scenes are no longer needed. It its believed the VFX work is also completed for this show but that does not mean it is going to be released soon. WandaVision could still spoil other plot points from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and the show is meant to lead directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which has been pushed back to March 25, 2022. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier still has two or three weeks left of shooting – In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sebastian Stan debunked rumors that the show only a week left to shoot, instead saying “No, we were probably two or three, but don’t quote me on that”. While we do not know when the Disney+ shows will be released, this news almost ensures we will not be seeing The Falcon and the Winter Soldier release during its target window of August. (Source – https://bit.ly/3duCJk2)

It is believe that the She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel scripts have all been completedShe-Hulk and Moon Knight have confirmation on completed scripts and while their is no official word, it is believed the scripts for Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel are completed as well as they are scheduled to shoot and release prior to She-Hulk and Moon Knight. Secret Warriors, Ghost Rider, Ironheart, Secret Invasion/S.W.O.R.D and Nova are in development at Marvel Studios – There is little to no information on these properties outside of the confirmation they are in the works. Secret Invasion is certainly a show and will lead directly into Captain Marvel 2 and if I had to guess, Secret Warriors and Ironheart will receive Disney+ shows and Nova and Ghost Rider will be movies but again, there is no confirmation on that. Charlie Cox has said his version of Daredevil will not be in Spider-Man 3 – Charlie Cox recently had an interview with Comicbook.com and had this to say about his rumored role in Spider-Man 3 “I hadn’t heard those rumors, but it’s certainly not with my Daredevil. I’m not involved in it. If that is true, it’s not with me. It’s with another actor.” If you’ve followed me on Twitter for any length of time, you know that this was one of my favorite theories and while it is disappointing it will not be happening, this means we may have Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk as Peter’s lawyer (if this is even part of the storyline in Spider-Man 3) which is equally exciting. The script for Thor: Love and Thunder is complete and Chris Hemsworth says it’s the best he’s read in years – Chris Hemsworth was recently asked about Thor: Love and Thunder during promo for Extraction and had the following to say about the Love and Thunder script he read; “It’s one of the best scripts I’ve read in year. It’s Taika at his most extreme and his best. If the version I read is the one we get running with, it’s going to be pretty insane. Taika himself has described the movie as “It’s like 10 year olds Tolstoys us what should be in a movie and we said yes to every single thing” and coupling these comments with what we got in Thor: Ragnarok, I am beyond excited for this movie. Michael Douglas says we will get Ant-Man 3 news “soon” – During a Q&A on his Instagram, Michael Douglas was asked if he could share any info on Ant-Man 3. He was tight lipped and said he could not tell us anything but that we should be getting information “soon”. I personally think we will get some info at the virtual Comic-Con, as we are only a few months out from this event. (Source – https://bit.ly/2znukjw)\

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D final season will premiere on May 27th – The final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is set to air on ABC on May 27th. This season will wrap up the storylines began in season six and should give us answers on how the events of the show fit in the larger MCU (I personally think Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and the other Marvel TV shows are set on a different Earth, likely the 2014 timeline that Thanos left in Avengers: Endgame, but we will see soon). Check out the final season poster below.

Disney still has an untitled Marvel movie scheduled for 10/7/22 – Similar to Marvel Studios, Sony has shifted all of their future releases. Spider-Man 3 was moved from July 16, 2021 to November 5, 2021 and Into the Spider-Verse 2 was moved to October 7, 2022. Marvel Studios had an untitled movie set to be released on this date that many believed would be moved or abandoned but as of May 7, Disney has not moved the Untitled Marvel movie from this date.
