Marvel Studios recently presented at the Disney D23 Expo and there is some exciting news. New casting announcements for the first two previously confirmed shows, Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, updates on Loki and three new show announcements!! Check out the breakdowns below.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Falcon and the Winter Soldier starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as the title characters, will see Emily Van Camp and Daniel Brühl reprising their roles as Sharon Carter and Helmut Zemo, respectively. Wyatt Russell has been announced to be joining the cast as John Walker/U.S. Agent
WandaVision starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as the title characters, will see Kat Dennings and Randall Park reprising their roles as Darcy Lewis and Agent Jimmy Woo in the Disney+ show, in addition to Teyonah Parris playing an adult Monica Rambeau. Filming is scheduled to begin next month and the show was described as “half classic sitcom, half MCU spectacular”.
What If…? was announced to be 23 episodes long, featuring one episode for each movie currently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first episode will feature Peggy Carter receiving the super soldier serum rather than Steve Rogers. The show is expected to be voiced by the cast of the live action movies.
Tom Hiddleston will be reprising his roles as Loki, the God of Mischief and will pick up with Loki after he stole the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame. The series is expected to feature Loki time hopping and interfering with key events in humanity’s history likely creating new worlds in the Multiverse along the way. The show has been confirmed to be six hours long.
The D23 Expo saw the announcement of three new shows set in the MCU, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk. All three shows are expected to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Five slate.
Ms. Marvel will focus on Kamala Khan, a young Pakistani-American from a traditional and conservative home. In the comics, Kamala is an Inhuman with polymorphous powers that allow her the ability to stretch and change her body’s shape. The show
Moon Knight will focus on Marc Spector aka Moon Knight. At times a former CIA Agent, others a former mercenary, he is left for dead but is found by followers of Khonshu who’s god saves Spector’s life and granting him superhuman strength. He develops multiple personalities as a symptom of the Khonshu taking over his mind and will likely be a focal point of the show.
She-Hulk will focus on Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner. Jennifer is a successful lawyer until she is one day shot by criminals whose boss she was prosecuting. She receives a life saving blood transfusion from her cousin but the infusion of gamma-irradiated blood effected Jennifer’s body the same as Bruce’s and she becomes She-Hulk. There is a good possibility of Mark Ruffalo reprising his role as Bruce Banner on this show and the possibility of Jennifer Walters defending Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3(so long as a new deal is struck between Sony and Marvel Studios).
